The Aim... To provide candidates with an understanding of their legal requirements under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 Provide relevant knowledge & skills to enable manual handling to be delivered, assessed monitored and supervised at a local level. Provide manual handling skills, which includes applying techniques, understanding the ergonomic assessment process and having an understanding of back care at work and home

Objectives / Learning Outcomes

  • To be able to use the workbook, exercises and Derbyshire Inter Agency Group A Code of Practice (DIAG) to demonstrate an underpinning knowledge regarding the requirements of the legislation and the trainer role
  • Review the process for completing a manual handling risk assessment in line with the organisations Manual Handling Policy and DIAG
  • Demonstrate manual handling skills using current techniques in line with organisations Manual Handling Policy and DIAG Code of Practice
  • Practice teaching, coaching, instructing and supervising someone in manual handling using the Instructional Techniques Pack, DIAG and Highfield as a standard
